This series of 50+ sketchbook drawings made through out a state lockdown and quarantine in the Spring of 2020 was an act of desperation and necessity. I was inspired to keep producing work but also felt unable to continue working in the same ways, in the same style, in the same mindset. I felt forced to put goals and dreams I had for my practice on hold. I shifted to accommodate my toddler. Our sleep patterns changed, naps lead to late, late nights, leaving me with 5-30 minutes to record her various sleep positions and surroundings before she woke or before I needed to sleep. I found a partially used sketchbook and soft drawing pencils, the most basic materials, portable, compact, as my reliable means of expression. This series is my visual testament to the personal desperation felt as an artist, as a woman, as a care-giver, making space for the small joys, bitterness, tender moments, and heartbreak that was being a full-time caregiver again.
